The construction rules behind every panel
Base outside is the inside dimension plus two greyboard thicknesses.
Lid inside clears the base outside plus wrap paper on both faces plus 1mm slip, so it neither jams nor falls off.
Each wrap arm is the wall height plus a 12mm turn-in (15mm on tall boxes) that folds over the top edge.
Corner ears with 45 degree mitres wrap round each corner so the paper does not bunch.
Artwork tips for this style
- Bleed is 5mm and safe area 6mm, because wrap paper stretches as it is pulled over the edges.
- Keep critical artwork 10mm below the turn-in fold, and nothing important in the corner ears.

4 x 4 x 4 inRigid Lid and Base dieline questions
Why is a rigid box template a wrap sheet and not a box outline?+
A rigid box is greyboard shells wrapped in printed paper. The greyboard is never printed, so the file you art up is the wrap sheet, with its turn-ins and corner ears. The greyboard panel sizes are listed in the spec block for reference.
Why is the lid wrap bigger than the base wrap?+
The lid has to slide over the wrapped base. Its inside is the base outside plus the wrap paper on both mating faces plus about 1mm of slip clearance.
Which way should the paper grain run?+
Parallel to the long side of the box. Grain running the wrong way makes the box warp as the adhesive dries.
Is this dieline template really free?+
Yes. Every standard size downloads instantly with no email. The custom-size generator asks for an email before the download so our team can help if you want the box produced.
Can I use this template with another printer?+
Yes. It is a standard SVG with a legend and spec block, so any printer can read it. Board and equipment vary, so verify the dieline with whoever prints the job before production.
